Updates on Building, Sharing and Learning for Peace

Hear from the Chair, Andrew Yates, of the Cornwall Faith Forum about the various strands of the Forum

Building for Peace

The good news is that Cornwall Council have responded positively to our request for an extension to the Option to Lease contract on the ground at Penmount until 2022. The not so good news is that because of other commitments and people moving away from Cornwall, the Building Project Group now needs re-forming. So we are asking the wider membership for ideas AND volunteers to be put forward for a new Dor Kemmyn Oval task group to submit proposals to Trustees. If you are interested in being part of this group and have suggestions to take it forward please get in touch with me ASAP srotruro@btinternet.com. We will also be holding an Open Meeting to consider this project on Wednesday September 6th at 7pm at New County Hall in Truro to look specifically at this issue. The need to seek an extension to our Lease Option has really focussed the Trustees’ minds and we cannot under estimate the sense of urgency that now surrounds this strand.

In the meantime if you want to add to our cob brick pile or know individuals or groups who would enjoy participating please contact Rita Stephen dorkemmyn.rita@btinternet.com for information on this fun and important opportunity.

Sharing for Peace

We held a time of reflection at Penmount as part of the Jo Cox Memorial Get Together with readings on a theme of togetherness from our seven traditions.

A copy of extracts from these texts is on our web site for further reflection. And our togetherness continued with a shared picnic and a literal ‘all together now’ pull exercise of re-covering the polytunnel.

Our Community Link Project of helping the Syrian Families integrate into local Cornish communities continues to be a success. New volunteers to help at the weekly coffee morning and with other social activities are always welcome and any Arabic speakers in the area who might be willing and able to offer time would be especially appreciated. Once again please contact Rita at dorkemmyn.rita@btinternet.com for more information.  All those who have participated in this project speak of the tremendous privilege it feels to offer service in this way.

Learning for Peace

Once the Academic Year is in full swing we shall again be looking for volunteers to act as Faith Awareness speakers – being willing to go into schools or attend events to share the importance to you of your faith and so help children and adults understand more about the diversity of faith reactions present across our County.

Treasurer

After several years of invaluable service our treasurer, Karen Harris, is retiring.   So from the AGM in October onwards we are looking for someone or ‘someones’ in a possible job share to take on this important role. If you might have the time and experience to help in this role or just at this stage to enquire what it involves please contact Andrew Yates srotruro@btinternet.com to discuss this.  A list of current tasks is available from Andrew.

After the tragic events earlier this year in Manchester, London Bridge, Finsbury Park and across the globe the need for People of Faith to come and stand together side by side is even greater.  All strands of our work as Cornwall Faith Forum are vitally important to the well-being and safety of our Community so please do to try to support the Cornwall Faith Forum in any ways you can.

If you would like to know more about the work of Cornwall Faith Forum or to take part please contact any of the Trustees:
