Peace Poles at Penmount
Cornwall Faith Forum are grateful to Cornwall Council for the offer of land at Penmount as a site for building the Centre for Peace and Faith to be called Dor Kemmyn which is Cornish for Common Ground. The proposed site is marked at the moment by an oval of peace poles.
We planted our first peace pole in 2016 which has the phrase ‘Let there be peace on earth’ in English, in Hebrew, in Arabic, in Cornish and in Braille. In 2024 we asked each of the Cornish Faith Communities to design a pole which in words and images represented their faith and belief. And so poles were presented by the Bahai, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Jewish and Pagan Communities.
The Oval of poles creates a special and unique space for the worship that is held there on a monthly basis and led by each of the communities in turn.
The Forum then asked a number of our Partners to design poles so our joint work within the wider community can be celebrated.
