Description
Sacred Sound Common Ground brings together devotional music from different faith traditions across Cornwall, including Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Pagan.
The idea arose in 2010 as a way of celebrating diversity of spirituality in the County and also with the aim of raising awareness of Dor Kemmyn, with its vision for an interfaith prayer space in Cornwall. Recording began in 2013 after initial funding was generously awarded in 2012 from the West Cornwall Diversity Action Group. Recording was completed at Gear Mill, Carn Euny Beehive chamber and at Paul Church.
The CD takes us on a journey through the boundless space of the heart: up-lifting the spirit and gently leading us into Mystery within which each of these invocations are offered, through both voice and silence. The prayers and invocations of the album are recited, sung or chanted not by performers but by practitioners of the paths represented.
The album opens with ‘Unita’, Cornish for ‘ unity ‘, a piece woven from the collective voice of seven traditions and recorded at Paul church. The album concludes with chanting of the four Brahma Vihara’s – ‘ the Abodes of the Gods ‘ – or four immeasureables, invoking loving kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity for the Earth and all beings, chanted underground in Penwith at Carn Euny Beehive. The CD has been made thanks to the tremendous generosity of members of the Cornwall Faith Forum, of the WCDAG, with the very generous and skilful support of Michael Tingle and Danu Fox. We are grateful to everyone for their wonderful contribution to this project.
